J. L. Oakheart
About the Author
J.L. Oakheart was born in Texas in 1985. His love of fantasy started when he was a young boy and his mother and father introduced him to the classic sword and sorcery movies of the 1980’s. Once he could read, he devoured the writings of fantasists J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and Frank Herbert as well as historical books about the kings, queens and ancient empires of our own world. All of these served as foundational texts for his own eventual works of fantasy and science fiction.
Although Oakheart wrote many short stories growing up, he did not seriously begin developing an honest-to-goodness book until the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020. When everything was shut down, he had plenty of time to work on his first novel, Vile Blades: Lessons from the Road. This was due to the new work and living situation that the pandemic provided. The novel was born from a world of fantasy known as Arthennia that Oakheart created and gamed in since he was a freshman in college. To this day, his secondary world remains very important to him.
He has two more books coming soon, the first is Malek: Firebrand, which takes place in the world of Arthennia, and the second book of the Vile Blades trilogy which is yet untitled.
Vile Blades: Lessons from the Road
Vile Blades is the story of Arnaud, a poet from Melderin who finds himself caught up in surprising, and unexpected circumstances. After a night out on the town, the young man is swept up into the adventure of a lifetime by accompanying a mercenary group that is wanted for horse thievery. Through the blood and mud of the Eastrealm they find themselves pursued by a power from beyond the grave that seeks their complete and utter destruction. Along the way, he learns valuable lessons that will shape his future and reveal that the mercenaries he travels with are much more than they seem. Malek
Vilius Malek, one of the most infamous names in Arthennian history, was once only a young commander. He sought glory on the battlefield and redemption for his family name, that is, until he saved a young mage named Silas from death at the hands of an angry peasant mob. Little did he know that decision would change the course of his life forever.
All the while, his wife, Vrikezia, was on a quest for the truth of her mysterious birth. She also harbors designs for the complete control of the ruling council of her city. With the help of her estranged family, she crafts a conspiracy so dangerous that she may be discovered before she can see it through.
